2013 Chevy Malibu now holds the title as the most fuel-efficient Chevy midsize sedan, ever with the introduction of the Chevy Malibu ECO. GM officially unveiled the all-new Malibu at the Shanghai Motor Show earlier this week, but today the Malibu is debuting in New York. The all-new Malibu is going to launch with a new 2.5L four-cyl that puts out 190 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. Chevy is going to follow Hyundai's play with only offering four-cyl engines in its midsize sedan.
A turbocharged four-cyl is expected to launch at a later date. In addition to the 2.5L and upcoming turbo 4-cyl, Chevy also has the Malibu ECO, which is an eAssist-equipped model that is expected to get 26 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. The Malibu ECO is powered by a 2.4L four-cylinder mated to the eAssist mild hybrid system. The 2013 Malibu is expected to launch early next year. Chevrolet Malibu 2013.

Sales of the new Malibu begin with the ECO model in the United States in early 2012. The Malibu LS, LT and LTZ trim level offerings join the ECO in summer 2012. Pricing will be announced later. "The Malibu ECO is a smart choice for customers who want excellent fuel economy without the price premium of popular hybrid sedans," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing.
